Treatment A great amount of prisoners died in the camps because of maltreatment, disease, starvation, and overwork, or were executed because they could not work. People that were being taken to the camps were transported by rail freight cars. Most died before they even reached the camp. When they got to the camps their clothes and other belongings were taken, and they were given uniforms to wear, along with a number. At the camps a lot of prisoners died from dehydration in the summer or froze to death in the winter. Illnesses especially, typhus and tuberculosis, were spreading throughout the camps, killing even more prisoners. Prisoners were often beaten for not being able to perform orders, or for no reason at all. Overall the treatment of the prisoners in the camps were terrible.
